Japanese mahjong (Japanese: 麻雀, 麻将 or マ ; mājan), also known as Mahjong riichi, is a variant of of the ancient Chinese game of mahjong. Although the basic rules of the game are retained, this variant has a unique set of rules such as riichi and the use of Dora. The variation is one of the few styles in which discarded tiles are ordered rather than stacked in a disorganized pile. This is mainly due to the rage rule, which takes into account the player’s elimination.
