It retains the core story but offers a quicker playthrough with quality-of-life improvements like the ability to get all 386 Pokémon and a large, expanded post-game with new gyms and areas. However, it removes certain features for the sake of its miniature scale, such as indoor buildings, and does not include modern mechanics like the Physical/Special split.
